Our Winter concert in 2018 featured a very special performance by pianist Florian Mitrea. Here is a review of the concert by an attendee:
“On Saturday 1 December Marlborough’s music lovers were treated to a concert featuring the outstanding Romanian pianist, Florian Mitrea. He has played all over the world, including an appearance earlier this year at the Carnegie Hall in New York. The Marlborough Concert Orchestra was indeed fortunate to be able to hire Florian as a Philip and Dorothy Green Young Artists scheme, through Making Music, the UK’s leading organisation for leisure-time music groups.
St. Mary’s Church was packed to capacity, latecomers having to stand. They were rewarded with Florian’s wonderful playing of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor. Never before in the annals of the Marlborough Concert Orchestra has an audience been privileged to hear such an extraordinary pianist.
After Florian’s performance the orchestra played pieces by Grieg, Bartók and Dvořák to complete a truly memorable evening.”
