We put on our first family-friendly concert with support from Waitrose “Music Matters”. The programme of short pieces included wind duets, a recorder solo string ensembles and a demonstration by Clare of how a trumpet works! The children were encouraged to get up and dance along and the atmosphere was relaxed and informal.
Marlborough Concert Orchestra were thrilled to receive £500 from Waitrose’s national grant scheme ‘Music Matters’ to put on this concert. The grant supports musical community activities so the concert’s aims were to introduce the orchestra and classical music generally to local families and inspire local young people to play. The concert was very well received with comments such as this left on our Facebook page: “Great concert, our girls especially liked the piece with flute and clarinet together as that’s what they are playing. Please do another family friendly concert.” The money from ticket sales was given to Christchurch (where we rehearse) to help its community activities.
